Trumpeter Caleb Hudson and trombonist Achilles Liarmakopoulos of the Canadian Brass join with pianist Ahmed Alom in this unique “piano trio” to perform original works and transcriptions by composers as varied as Bach, Mendelssohn, Strauss, Pixinguinha, Bernstein, D’Rivera and more.
Caleb Hudson is the newest member of the Canadian Brass, having graduated from the Juilliard School with both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees. Acclaimed by the New York Times as 'brilliantly stylish,' Caleb has performed as an international soloist, including a recital that was broadcast nationally on NPR's Performance Today.
Possessing a wide range of musical styles, his experience ranges from soloing in Carnegie Hall to performing with early music ensembles, even appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He is an alumnus of Interlochen Arts Academy and Ensemble Connect, a fellowship program of Carnegie Hall that promotes community outreach, and music education.
One of the most celebrated trombonists of his generation, Achilles Liarmakopoulos is the trombonist of the Canadian Brass. He is in demand as a soloist and performs often with Pink Martini.
He has toured extensively throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia, performing and educating in the world’s most important venues and institutions.
Achilles holds degrees from the Yale University School of Music, Curtis Institute of Music, San Francisco Conservatory and the Philippos Nakas Conservatory in his hometown of Athens, Greece. Upon completion of his studies, he won the position of principal trombone of the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra. Achilles has also performed with the Malaysian Philharmonic, Jacksonville Symphony and European Union Youth Orchestra, among many others.
Achilles has been the adjunct trombone professor at Brooklyn College at CUNY University in NY since 2014, and began teaching at the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, MA in 2020.
Cuban pianist, composer and improviser, Ahmed Alom, ("Gasp-inducing brilliance, splendid" — The Washington Post) has become one of the leading young figures in piano performance in the United States. His musicality and versatility among contrasting styles of music, visionary interpretations and unique improvisation talent, have garnered him critical acclaim and rising popularity among the young piano virtuosos on today's scene.
Besides winning the First Prize at the XXI Xalapa Piano Competition and the National Chamber Music Competition, (Mexico), the Maria Clara Cullell International Piano Competition (Costa Rica) and the UNEAC Piano Competition in Havana, Alom also won prizes at the Yamaha sponsored Cuevas International Piano Competition, (Mexico), the Bradshaw, Buono and the Slatkin/Composers Competitions at Manhattan School of Music, (New York). He was also finalist at the 66th Chopin Kosciuszko Foundation Competition, recipient of the Munz Foundation Competition, and 1st Prize laureate of the Young Musicians Competition.
Ahmed Alom started piano lessons at 5 in his hometown Havana, with Beatriz Olivera, Hortensia Upmann, Leonardo Gell, Ninowska Fernandez and Svetlana Logounova. He is a Manhattan School of Music graduate as a scholarship student of the Viola B. Marcus Foundation and Flavio Varani Fund for Pianists, under the guidance of Dr. Solomon Mikowsky, and was coached by Kirill Gerstein, Sylvia Rosenberg, Richard Goode, Anthony de Mare and Robert Levin. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras in Spain, Cuba, Mexico and the United States, performing works ranging from Beethoven to Chopin and Gershwin.
